Inspirational friendship poems convey
your appreciation for someone's encouragement.by Grace Stricker Dawson You entered my life in a casual way, And saw at a glance what I needed; There were others who passed me or met me each day, But never a one of them heeded. Perhaps you were thinking of other folks more, Or chance simply seemed to decree it; I know there were many such chances before, But the others--well, they didn't see it. You said just the thing that I wished you would say, And you made me believe that you meant it; I held up my head in the old gallant way, And resolved you should never repent it. There are times when encouragement means such a lot, And a word is enough to convey it; There were others who could have, as easy as not-- But, just the same, they didn't say it. There may have been someone who could have done more To help me along, though I doubt it; What I needed was cheering, and always before They had let me plod onward without it. You helped me to refashion the dream of my heart, And made me turn eagerly to it; There were others who might have (I question that part)-- But, after all, they didn't do it! A Mile With Me
by Henry Van Dyke O who will walk a mile with me Along life's merry way? A comrade blithe and full of glee, Who dares to laugh out loud and free, And let his frolic fancy play, Like a happy child, through the flowers gay That fill the field and fringe the way Where he walks a mile with me. And who will walk a mile with me Along life's weary way? A friend whose heart has eyes to see The stars shine out o'er the darkening lea, And the quiet rest at the end o' the day-- A friend who knows, and dares to say, The brave, sweet words that cheer the way Where he walks a mile with me. With such a comrade, such a friend, I fain would walk till journey's end, Through summer sunshine, winter rain, And then?--Farewell, we shall meet again!
Inspirational friendship poems convey how safe you feel with your friend. Friendship
by Dinah Maria Mulock Craik Oh, the comfort--the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, Having neither to weigh thoughts, Nor measure words--but pouring them All right out--just as they are-- Chaff and grain together-- Certain that a faithful hand will Take and sift them-- Keep what is worth keeping-- And with the breath of kindness Blow the rest away. Inspirational friendship poems aren't for women only! Fellowship
Unknown When a feller hasn't got a cent And is feelin' kind of blue, And the clouds hang thick and dark And won't let the sunshine thro', It's a great thing, oh my brethren, For a feller just to lay His hand upon your shoulder in a friendly sort of way. It makes a man feel queerish, It makes the tear-drops start. And you kind o' feel a flutter In the region of your heart. You can't look up and meet his eye, You don't know what to say When a hand is on your shoulder in a friendly sort of way. ![]()
Inspirational friendship poems are a great way to say, "I love you, my friend." Love
by Roy Croft I love you Not only for what you are, But for what I am When I am with you. I love you, Not only for what You have made of yourself, But for what You are making of me. I love you For the part of me That you bring out; I love you For putting your hand Into my heaped-up heart And passing over All the foolish, weak things That you can't help Dimly seeing there, And for drawing out Into the light All the beautiful belongings That no one else had looked Quite far enough to find. I love you because you Are helping me to make Of the lumber of my life Not a tavern But a temple; Out of the works Of my every day Not a reproach But a song. I love you Because you have done More than any creed Could have done To make me good, And more than any fate Could have done To make me happy. You have done it Without a touch, Without a word, Without a sign. You have done it By being yourself. Perhaps that is what Being a friend means, After all.
Inspirational friendship poems share how much you appreciate someone's being there. A Friend's Greeting
by Edgar A. Guest I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me; I'd like to be the help that you've been always glad to be; I'd like to mean as much to you each minute of the day As you have meant, old friend of mine, to me along the way. I'd like to do the big things and the splendid things for you, To brush the gray from out your skies and leave them only blue; I'd like to say the kindly things that I so oft have heard, And feel that I could rouse your soul the way that mine you've stirred. I'd like to give you back the joy that you have given me, Yet that were wishing you a need I hope will never be; I'd like to make you feel as rich as I, who travel on Undaunted in the darkest hours with you to lean upon. I'm wishing at this Christmas time that I could but repay A portion of the gladness that you've strewn along my way; And could I have one wish this year, this only would it be: I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me. Inspirational friendship poems motivate you to be a friend to everyone. Say It Now
Unknown If you have a friend worth loving, Love him. Yes, and let him know That you love him, ere life's evening Tinge his brow with sunset glow. Why should good words ne'er be said Of a friend--till he is dead? If you hear a song that thrills you, Sung by any child of song, Praise it. Do not let the singer Wait deserved praises long. Why should one who thrills your heart Lack the joy you may impart? If you hear a prayer that moves you By its humble, pleading tone, Join it. Do not let the seeker Bow before his God alone. Why should not your brother share The strength of "two or three" in prayer? If you see the hot tears falling From a brother's weeping eyes, Share them. And by kindly sharing Own our kinship in the skies. Why should anyone be glad When a brother's heart is sad? If a silvery laugh goes rippling Through the sunshine on his face, Share it. 'Tis the wise man's saying-- For both grief and joy a place. There's health and goodness in the mirth In which an honest laugh has birth. If your work is made more easy By a friendly, helping hand, Say so. Speak out brave and truly Ere the darkness veil the land. Should a brother workman dear Falter for a word of cheer? Scatter thus your seeds of kindness All enriching as you go-- Leave them. Trust the Harvest Giver; He will make each seed to grow. So until the happy end Your life shall never lack a friend. Inspirational friendship poems may be expressed for someone who touched your life only briefly. Touching Shoulders
Unknown There's a comforting thought at the close of the day, When I'm weary and lonely and sad, That sort of grips hold of my crusty old heart And bids it be merry and glad. It gets in my soul and it drives out the blues, And finally thrills through and through. It is just a sweet memory that chants the refrain: "I'm glad I touch shoulders with you!" Did you know you were brave, did you know you were strong? Did you know there was one leaning hard? Did you know that I waited and listened and prayed, And was cheered by your simplest word? Did you know that I longed for that smile on your face, For the sound of your voice ringing true? Did you know I grew stronger and better because I had merely touched shoulders with you? I am glad that I live, that I battle and strive For the place that I know I must fill; I am thankful for sorrows, I'll meet with a grin What fortune may send, good or ill. I may not have wealth, I may not be great, But I know I shall always be true, For I have in my life that courage you gave When once I rubbed shoulders with you. May I coach you? Inspirational friendship poems are a great way to express to someone how deeply they have touched your life. |
