Seven Ways To Treat and Heal Heart Disease Naturally

Heart disease. Heart attack. Bypass surgery.

Three phrases that used to evoke fear. But in the last couple of decades, they have become so commonly used that you probably don't think twice about them.

paramedics transporting man on stretcherThat is, you don't think about them unless you have been diagnosed with heart disease, or have had a loved one die from a heart attack. When something that serious hits close to home, it hovers over you like an eternal thundercloud.

You may be able to push it to the back of your mind for a short time. However, inevitably, a newspaper headline, a snippet of conversation, a sudden shortness of breath, and SWOOP! The cloud returns, raining down a torrent of answered questions.

  • Why did this happen?
  • Will it happen again?
  • Are drugs the only answer?
  • What are my chances of growing old?

Why heart disease happens

You know the basics of a heart attack. An artery gets clogged, so the blood can't get to the heart, so the heart, in effect, has a seizure while desperately trying to get the blood into and through itself.

But what causes the clogged artery? Too much dietary cholesterol and fats? Excessive stress that somehow makes the body malfunction? Not enough omega 3's? pill

The medical answer is, "All of the above. Fix it with a drug."

The true answer is, "It depends. Fix the root cause."

Most likely, you've heard that the main culprit in heart disease is eating too much food high in saturated fats and cholesterol. Cut out the red meat, butter, and cheese, and you'll never have a heart attack.

There are two problems with that theory. First of all, as Sally Fallon mentions in her classic book Nourishing Traditions, "Research does not support the claim that butter causes chronically high cholesterol values...." (p. 15) She then points out that studies now show that trans fats lead to chronic high cholesterol and can lead to both heart disease and cancer.

The other problem is that it contradicts Dr. Weston A. Price's findings back in the 1930's. He studied many people groups who ate a traditional, native diet. Most of these groups ate foods such as butter, milk, and organ meat liberally.

None of them had any sign of degenerative disease. Including heart disease.

That brings up the question: could our modern-day Western diet be the culprit?

I believe the facts show clearly that yes, our highly processed, unnatural diet is what causes clogged arteries and heart attacks.

7 ways to treat and cure heart disease without drugs or surgery

Given the conclusion that a sick heart is caused by eating the wrong food, two donuts on a plate the first two natural cures revolve around--you guessed it--diet. Changing your eating habits is the number one way to prevent heart problems or, if you already have them, to find healing.

The other suggestions can be considered extra preventative measures for the person who doesn't yet have symptoms of heart disease. Or, for anyone who already has heart issues, they may be used alongside the nutritional overhaul.

1.  Eliminate all processed food from your diet. Yes, I said ALL. No sneaking a brownie in the break room. No "once a week" sodas. No bread made from flour (sprouted grain bread will be an acceptable--and tasty--substitute for most people). No soup from a can.

Okay, maybe you can safely splurge once a month or so. Just know that every time you put processed food in your body, you are introducing toxins into every cell and placing an unnatural burden on all of your body systems.

2. Eat two large salads per day, and eat some raw animal products every day. The native groups Dr. Price studied ate a large amount of raw food, including raw animal products. Those included everything from raw butter and cheese to raw fish eggs to raw kangaroo liver (those were the Australian Aborigines, of course).

Sally Fallon's website, as well as her book, provides lots of information on how to obtain raw dairy products, as well as safety tips for eating raw meat and organs. (Raw salmon is actually pretty tasty--really!)

3. Quit smoking. Smoking has been correlated to heart disease in numerous studies. Plus it's just plain old gross. Plus you'll probably be able to retire younger if you quit wasting your money on cigarettes.

4. Try reflexology. Certain points on your feet connect to certain parts of the body and to certain organs. Having someone trained in reflexology regularly work on your feet may improve your heart health, as well as your general physical health.

If nothing else, it sure feels good!

5. Supplement with magnesium. Magnesium relaxes muscles. Your heart is a muscle; therefore, making sure you are not deficient in magnesium may reduce your risk of a heart attack. This page lists symptoms of a magnesium deficiency.

6. Learn to relax. Excuse me a moment while I coach myself: Self, it's okay to let the housework go and nap with your son once in a while. Self, you are not Superwoman, so stop trying to act like her. Self, sometimes when your husband takes your son to the park, it's okay for you to lounge around and read instead of trying to play catch-up.

7. Chelation therapy. Hundreds of thousands of heart disease patients are seeing excellent results from this therapy, according Gary Null, author of Get Healthy Now! A chemical drip solution called EDTA is circulated through the veins. As it does, it bonds with toxic metals (which are found in most everyone's body these days) and carries them out of the bloodstream. In the process, it slows or reverses the clogged condition of the arteries.

Unlike bypass surgery, chelation therapy has no death risk and costs under $5,000 for a full treatment.

May I coach you? Heart disease is a frightening aspect of life if it has invaded yours. But many people have turned their condition around, even been healed of all symptoms, without drugs or surgery. Consider the above alternatives if you or a loved one is diagnosed with a heart condition.
